Am I guilty??

When I sat down to write today(after an unjust gap of almost a week!!) I still had an overwhelming sense of guilt hurtling down my mind.. and the reason.. I have an Operating Systems project to deal with.. and my project partners are not 'wasting' their time blogging! ;) I had almost given up when I thought I would not do any good to my project because all I had in my mind was write! ;)

This itch had been so strong because I recently witnessed a very important event in my life, and that's a snowfall! Yeah, I have already added a 'life-event' to my facebook, yet I somehow felt that this event deserved more :)...
Being in North Carolina, it was a legitimate surprise for us when we woke up to the forecast of a snowfall that evening, more so, because it had been pretty hot(as always) only yesterday! Facebook friends took upon the responsibility of to-the-minute weather presenter and the build-up was all there! Come evening, our optimism transformed the rain drops into snow flakes the moment it started raining. In sometime, they were real!... we went out, had a little snow-fight, and were so happy with the little "snow" we had been bestowed with ;) We were back home right after, anyways, the 'guilt' of not preparing for the presentation next day was already overpowering us.
As if that was a challenge to God, he promptly followed it up with a brilliant display of real snowfall. For the next one hour, all of us had our mental defences down, every assignment took a backstage, and we were out in the middle savouring our first ever snowfall:) Dear God.. it was surreal! Thank you for making us part of this celebration which fills us with life and washes down a lot of 'guilt' from our already duped minds.

  1. I am sure if you would have chosen to work on the presentation and not go out to enjoy the first Snowfall of your life, you would have ended up having much "bigger guilt".

Its because grass always looks greener at the other side. When we reach out to that "other" side, we realize we were better off before, adding to our misery and definitely to our "bag of guilt".

  2. Once I learned something very valuable from an average Hindi movie. Say you are 26 years old, i.e. roughly 9500 days. Sit down and write how many days can you exactly recall - memorable or not so memorable, just something you remember. Anyone would do well to recall 40 - 50 such days. I bet no one can even recall all their birthdays.
30 years down the line, we all will remember this night of the first snowfall, and it is much more worth than any other work we would have had. Hell I say that it would be much more 'memorable' and unforgettable had it caused bad marks in the Operating System assignment. What would a 60 year old Deepanjan think if you had stayed indoors and worked on some stupid project which would be obsolete in a few years?

and to extrapolate a very good point made by you, that 60 year old Deepanjan would have sat down and lamented that night when he did not go out when he could have gone out and *made it memorable* :)
and btw, yes our dear Hindi movies do make some sense :)
